Sovok – in Ukrainian is a slang term for Soviet Union. The other meaning for 'sovok' is a dustpan. There is also an idiom "to keep stepping on the same rake", which means repeating a same mistake. Stepping on 'sovok' is referring to repeating historical mistakes, standing on the same rake of authoritarianism and populism. With my imagery and its layout, I am making a reference to Ai Weiwei's "Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn" – a photographic documentation of a performance presented as triptych showing an action in three phases.
