On the CSM Graduate Show I presented a 6 x 6m long camouflage netting made out of cotton and polyester - a synthetic translucent and delicate fabric which is in fact quite strong and historically was often used as a building material for aircrafts. The netting is suspended from the ceiling and its shape and white colour may remind of a military jet this way suggesting a need for “shelter the sky” (one of the calls used on Ukrainian protests since Feb 2022) and defend the airspace of Ukraine. It may also look like a stork bird - one of the symbols of Ukraine associated with care and home.

The act of collective making is crucial to the idea. Since the start of russia's invasion to Ukraine back in 2014, the Ukrainian civilians have been supplying the army with military clothes and equipment, including camouflage nettings. Weaving those had become a unifying activity. In preparation for the Graduate Show I have organised an event that involved weaving, discussion and presentation about the history of camouflage .The netting was made with the help of people dear to my heart who have been supporting me greatly over the last year on the rallies, Ukrainian projects and fundraisers.

This spirit of unity was something I wanted to not just represent but embody in a work. And participation is the best way to achieve it I believe. On the event we were talking about the war, about the urgent issues, about being in London and being in Ukraine at this time
